The Children’s Theatre of Livingston (CTL), where every child takes center stage, is proud to announce their fourth annual production. CTL will present “HONK! Jr.” a musical retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Ugly Duckling. The play will be presented April 16, 17 and 18, 2010 at Mount Pleasant Middle School. This theatrical experience offers the children of Livingston the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the stage in a fun workshop format. Children in grades second through fifth are invited to sign up to perform on the stage and middle school children can apply to participate in the backstage crew that includes stage management, lights, sound, props and student directing. Each child will have their own shining moment in the show and auditions are not required.
Janene DePalo, the Supervisor of Math for Livingston School District will be the Director. Marilyn Fiordaliso, owner of her own music studio in town, will be the Music Director. Both DePalo and Fiordaliso are returning to CTL after directing the last three shows: Edna May’s Musical Theatre Camp, School House Rock Live, JR and Challenges…Bring Us Together. Rounding out the production team is Barbara Anderson as the costume designer, Amedeo Ciminnisi as the technical director and Hugh Mahon as the set designer.
Honk! Jr. is a retelling of the story about The Ugly Duckling, mixed with a theme of pro-tolerance. With a witty book and score the story features a squadron of comical geese, a sly tomcat who just wants to play with his food, a tearful mother, a dad always ‘ducking’ out of his responsibilities, a duo comprising of a cat and a hen right out of a Shakespearean comedy, a wisecracking bullfrog, other barnyard creatures, and an ugly duckling who discovers his inner beauty by becoming a swan. The show opens with the upbeat song, “A Poultry Tale,” which helps to introduce the characters in the musical, and has many other memorable songs such as “Look at Him” and “Warts and All”.
Enrollment is open to all residents of Livingston and no audition is required. There is a participation fee that includes a commemorative T-shirt, cast picture, and performance DVD.
